also, initially just mix the henna with as much liquid as you need to make it into a
paste - 2/3 of 500 ml seems like a lot of liquid for 50g of powder.

final thing: I think that recently there have been some thoughts here that applying
indigo and henna at the same time will result in brownish rather than black, and that
to get real black you need to apply the indigo right after you've rinsed off the henna -
the idea was that the indigo may be reacting with unoxidized henna, already bound to
the hair, to yield black. the two methods haven't been compared on a single person's
hair though, afaik, so the differences in results between the two methods may also be
attributed to people's underlying natural hair colours. but it may be something to
think about if you find that your results turn out not as dark as you wanted them.
