Weld for BlondePosted by Kristine on October 2, 2004 at 15:43:39: Hi, all -I am still wanting to make my silver hair (aprox. 20% of total hair, rest is dark brown) turn blonde, so as to give the appearance of blonde highlights, not gray. I had a little success with a strong tumeric rinse, though my previously highlighted ends, which are more porous, took in much more color than the rest of the hair, and so turned an unnatural brassy yellow color. Since I am planning on cutting my hair soon anyway to get rid of those several inches of ends, that didn't worry me too much. What was a problem, however, was the tumeric staining my fingers and fingernails, and rubbing off on my clothes and pillowcase. In any case, the tumeric has proved to be not colorfast, and has completely washed off my hands and out of my hair (and, for the most part, off of my clothes) now that it has been a couple of weeks. So...I am still interested in experimenting with natural herbs to turn my silver to blonde. Some here have said that rhubarb root is a more natural blonde and a better dye than tumeric. I have not yet found the time to order some and try it. But I was wondering, has anyone ever used the herb "weld" to dye their hair blonde? I have read that it is the most colorfast, best yellow natural dye, but I could not find any references to it being used on hair or the human body, and am wondering if it is safe or toxic.
