The idea that adding hot water and letting it sit for 1 hour just doesn’t work for moderately stale henna that you would find in the health food store. Just ignore the packaged instructions and add lemon juice or some other acidic liquid. Then let it sit for 12-24 hours in an airtight container to allow for dye release. My mom’s hair will have a dull rough texture in the first 2-3 days after the henna application. After which the initial brightness fades and her hair will be very silky smooth and shiny. If that is what people mean by ‘coated’, well it certainly does not last.
