Indigo for grey's

My mom dyes her hair black, and she has used black henna from Brazil
of and on for many years. She has grey roots, and the rest of her
hair is black. I purchased and sent her indigo but I skipped
purchasing henna. Will the indigo cover her grey's without using red
henna first? And will indigo condition hair by itself?
