I would like to try henna on my hair again

Many years ago I used henna on my hair to condition it but not to
enhance the color of my hair. I don't like to change my hair color
but perhaps make my natural hair color a bit more vibrant. I do not
mind my grey hairs coming in rapidly now, so, I am not focusing on
giving them color either. I consider my hair color a medium sandy
blond and depending on the shampoo I use I can detect a little
golden, reddish hint to it. The first time that I used the henna on
my hair I noticed that my hair turned out a little coarse and hard
to manage and it felt dry and after washing it, it got tangled like
mad. My hair is fine and I thought using the henna will give me some
volume. Now my question is: I would like to give it a try again but
I want to do it right this time. What would one recommend for me to
get volume, conditioning, enhance my natural hair color and last but
not least tips so that I don't end up with the feel of horse hair?
