: If the paprika does not do it for you try beet root powder. I've
: heard that it gives a bright red.

Thanks for all the help so far!
My hair is naturally medium to dark brown but i had been dying it red
chemically for years, so most of it (apart from 2 inches at the top)
was a kind of washed out mid-brown brassy colour. i left it for a
while before starting with henna so it was fine over my previously
dyed hair and seems to be blending the roots in quite well (i have
always wanted long hair but due to all the damage it wasn't working,
although after only 2 months of henna it is longer than ever before!)
the colour at the moment is still a bit washed out and brassy, but
much better than it was before the henna. i am hoping that after
several aplications i will get results like some of the pictures on
this page, maybe i will even send a picture in!

I haven't been adding lemon juice as i didn't really know that much
about henna when i started. my first lot i bought from the body shop
(don't bother!) and just followed the instructions on the packet (just
added hot water). the second time i sought some out in alternative
shops and it was much better, but considering how cheap it was i am
pretty sure it was still not top quality!
My body art quality henna has just arrived but i am going to try my
best to wait a couple more weks before using it since i only did the
last one three weeks ago. does anyone have any tips on how often it
can be done, especially when the colour has not had a chance to build
up much yet?
I love henna, it's great! I don't believe I have been ising chemical
dyes for 6 years fruitlessly trying to acheive lasting bright red
shades when something natural can do the job. Even though it's not
quite as good as the photos on here yet it is a million times better
than what i was using before, the supposedly 'permanent' dyes which
lost their vibrant colour after only about a week!

more tips would still be greatly appreciated though, since i am only a
beginner. i have had a look on the techniques page but i still can't
find anything on exactly how much paprika to add to the mix?

also, what does leaving the henna to develop do? Will this give me
redder shades, as I had just been applying it as soon as it cooled
down before, and does leaving it longer make any difference? what is
the longest time you can leave it?

thank you again for all your help, can't wait to send a photo in
sometime when i have got it perfect!
