I did that and it sparked my interest sooo much I henna-ed my hair within about 3 weeks! I'm certainly no expert (having done my hair twice so far) but from reading here I can tell you that there is no such thing as "black henna." That label usually indicates that there is either (hopefully) indigo in the mix or (tragically) PPD dye. A lot of people on this site use henna first then indigo after or use them both together (after dye releasing them separately as the instructions for each is different) with really beautiful results. I would recommend looking at the mixes section and find someone with a color you like. Kim A and Debbie B have really beautiful brown hair with reddish highlights if that is what you're looking for or Tanja has the most beautiful black hair! The only thing I would truly encourage you to do is start with good quality henna. A lot of stuff that isn't body art quality sounds kind of dodgy to me, reading some of the comments on this forum from people who've tried them. And I would certainly tell you to test your hair first. You can get samples for almost free here from Catherine of just about any combo you're thinking of trying. Have fun with your hair! krazee
