I quite agree that it would be better if they didn't, for example,
call indigo 'black henna'. However, this is not precisely a label they
can be blamed for. My understanding is that the whole 'red henna'
(real henna), 'black henna' (indigo) and 'neutral henna' (cassia)
labelling goes back a long way.

What matters to me is that they clearly indicate what their products
contain. Given that Lush is sold in several countries were false
declaration of contents is illegal, and given their own policies and
mission statement, I do think it is going a little too far to suspect
them of not being honest. They call all their colours henna, yes, but
they clearly list the ingredients right next to the name.

So although it is true that appear to have bought into some of the
henna myths (such as calling indigo 'black henna' or saying that henna
acts as a varnish on the hair), I fully trust their labelling given
that part of their business concept is to fully declare the contents
of their products. With another company, I quite agree that these
misconceptions would be a cause for concern, since they might just be
reselling products they don't know the contents of, but Lush actually
mixes their blends.
