My understanding is that the whole 'red henna' (real henna), 'black henna' (indigo) and 'neutral henna' (cassia) labelling goes back a long way. What matters to me is that they clearly indicate what their products contain. Given that Lush is sold in several countries were false declaration of contents is illegal, and given their own policies and mission statement, I do think it is going a little too far to suspect them of not being honest. They call all their colours henna, yes, but they clearly list the ingredients right next to the name. So although it is true that appear to have bought into some of the henna myths (such as calling indigo 'black henna' or saying that henna acts as a varnish on the hair), I fully trust their labelling given that part of their business concept is to fully declare the contents of their products. With another company, I quite agree that these misconceptions would be a cause for concern, since they might just be reselling products they don't know the contents of, but Lush actually mixes their blends.
