Let the mixed henna sit for a while longer before putting it on your head unless you are positive there is dye-release going on so soon. The best way to test if your henna has released is to cover the bowl you mixed it up in with plastic wrap as soon as it's mixed, and place a white napkin, tissue, or paper towel on top of the plastic wrap. When that has an orange stain, the henna is ready. Also, wait a few days. We have similar base colours, and I remember that the first time I hennaed it seemed very orange. Once the henna completely oxidizes on your hair it will cool off some. It may take one or two more applications to tweak the colour just right, though. Beet root is supposed to add more blue-red tones, so you might consider adding some to your next mix.
