Thanks to everybody for their advice.: I've done it the two-step way... as long as I can stand... and : actually done it over again several times on top of that, and the : indigo just leaves a light muddy stain over the orange. *sigh...* : I believe what you're saying about manic panic's warnings... but if : we have someone who's already trying it and it's working ok (Mrs. B.) : then what's the harm in doing a strand test? : I'll let you folks know how it turns out. Perhaps there is hope after : all for us emergency cases. :) : --K : : : : Posted by GSand on October 20, 2004 at 17:16:37: : : : Hey, folks. I have a question. Has anyone else had a problem with : : : indigo not "sticking" to their hair? : : : I'm looking for blue-black hair, but I very much want to do it : with : : : henna (my hair is a little on the thin side, and I like the : : : thickening/conditioning aspects of henna). Indigo, though, just : : : doesn't "stick" to my hair, even the top-quality stuff. I have : very : : : resistant light-brown-grey mousy hair. : : : I'm considering mixing the red henna paste with a dark blue Manic : : : Panic or Punky Color hair dye for the black effect... Do you folks : : : think this might work? : : : I've also heard of chemical reactions that turn henna black... : what : : : are they? I'll try them! : : : --G : : : : You shouldn't mix anything with manic panic--they're very adamant : : about it on all their packaging and website. The problem, like you : : said, is that your hair is dye resistant. Perhaps the two-step : : henna/indigo process with the indigo on as long as you can stand? There's no problem using henna AND manic panic--I had blue tips for a while that set off my copper-henna nicely--it's just the mixing that concerns me. Of all the premade dyes to use on your hair, manic panic is the only one I trust--they tell you exactly what's in it, and it's all stuff I can easily learn what it is (like hibiscus--they just use the latin name instead of the common name). They make a really pretty shade called Black and Blue, and you might want to consider using that if all the henna and indigo attempts fail. The only problem there is that I found my hennaed hair would not take the manic panic dye at ALL, so you'll want/need to bleach the hair (atleast a bit) before using manic panic on it so that the colour takes (I had no problems using it on bleached, previously hennaed hair).
