Re: Meg + Others: Amla and black hairPosted by Christine on October 25, 2004 at 19:09:38: In reply to: Meg + Others: Amla and black hair posted by Anna on October 16, 2004 at 17:11:44: : Hello Meg (and anyone else who may have tried this),: : I was very interested in the message you posted a couple of days ago : regarding the use of amla with indigo to create black hair. I'm : wondering--did the amla really work? If so, does it fade after a : couple of washings? I just ordered some from that website you sent : to us. : : Any advice appreciated... I left the amla/henna (the link did not mention indigo) mix in an iron vessel (a cast iron pot overdue for re-seasoning) overnight. The paste turned black where it touched the iron and turned dark brown-green when mixed. I applied it to my hair. Immediate result after rinsing and drying was black (base color) overlaid with deep red tinge in the sun (the deep red is probably due to the hibiscus tea I use). 24 hours later, the red is gone to a faint deep brown in the sun. No sun today, but still black with faint brown tones under flourescent light. I think next week I will try the amla/indigo mix in an iron vessel. I'll keep posting.
