Henna on chemical stripped hair

Hello;

I've been dying my light brown hair black for 6 years, and I want to
switch to henna. In order to dye it any other color, I must chemically
strip it back to a lighter color before henna-ing it. Does anyone have
any idea if this will work? Will stripped hair absorb henna correctly?
