I have 80% gray hair, but like to have dark brown, which was my original color, plus I'm only 30 and just want to stay with the color I had. With all the gray, I find that this works best for me: 1st application of pure henna, 1st application of pure indigo, 2nd application of pure henna, 2nd application of pure indigo (I have both waited between applications and not waited, and it doesn't really seem to matter). Yes, four applications in total...but the color I get in the end is a rich dark brown--which is neither reddish, nor an exaggerated black. As far ass using left over indigo, I've never done it, but it's probably worth a try, and I bet that it would stain at least somewhat. Good luck!
