Indigo dye release?Posted by Ash on November 13, 2004 at 20:57:24: Hey, I was wondering if you guys could tell me what I'm doingwrong. I hennaed my hair for the first time, and it turned out a beautiful orangy-red. I also wanted to make some of it black, so I mixed Zarqua black henna, which is ground indigo leaves, and really hot(just boiled) water together so it made a paste. I left that covered for about 30 minutes, and applied it to my hair. I covered my hair with plastic wrap and a towel, and washed it out after 2 hours. I noticed that when I put it in my hair, the dye hadn't released, so I tried to compensate for that by leaving it in my hair for 2 hours when the recommended time to leave it in is 45 minutes. I looked everywhere on this site to see what the dye release time is for indigo, and it says around 30 minutes. Sorry this is so long- winded but there's more.... I tried a second time with the indigo, hot water mix, but left it to sit uncovered for an hour. Still no dye release but I put it on again anyway . I don't want to waste anymore indigo so please help! Thanks guys!
