How often can I Henna?

Hello,
I used Henna yesterday for the first time. I have chemically treated
light brown hair with blond foiled highlights. The first application
didn't seem dark enough so I did it again the same day. I left it on
2 hours each time. My highlights were really picking up the red and
it was a little too bright for my taste. I was wondering if it would
be safe to do another application or if I should wait. Also, what
can I add to make it more brown? Coffee?
