I used the Hennalucent in sunset orange : (it's a blend of henna and other things but no peroxide or : ammonia). Boy is it ever sunset orange! I did a strand test with : hair from my hairbrush. I let it sit on the strands for 45 minutes : but it was too dark red. I liked the shade, but just wanted it a : bit lighter. Since I didn't have anymore strands from my hairbrush : to use, I decided to just leave it on for the minimum time of 20 : minutes. It is now day-glo neon orange. It might be nice if I was : a punk rocker! I thought about getting more and putting it on again : for 25 minutes (at least the shade on the strand test was a normal : color). Would this over-process my hair and makes things worse? : I'm not sure what to do. I know hair dressers hate henna and : putting chemicals on at this point would maybe not be a good thing. : Any suggestions? : : -Katy Hi Katy, I was also a lighter-toned natural redhead, and have gone a very vibrant deep delicious red with henna; for those of us starting out with a lighter shade, poor quality henna, insufficient dye release ( a problem of technique) and short length of time on the hair can produce and orange result. I first got the idea to henna my hair from a site called "just for redheads" which does a line of cosmetic products for redheads (overly priced and crappy btw, although their red mascaras are good!) However research led me to this site and the idea of using a better quality 100% pure henna and I'm glad it did. Although my first henna was a shock (the glow-in-the-dark effect you refer to is a phenomenon that occurs regardless;; after a few days to a week the day-glo tint settles down) the colour develops nicely to a deeper more mellow orangey-red and subsequent hennas add to the depth of colour. So yes, you can henna again as soon as you wish. It won't harm your hair. However I am not familiar with Hennalucent, and just in case there are any mystery ingredients, you definitely need to test again. Get yourself some body art quality henna (Catherine here sells it and boy oh boy is the delivery FAST - great for urgent emergencies, lol) and test an inconspicous strand if you can't harvest enough hair in the meantime. Study the techniques and mixes page for basics on mixing and be prepared to leave the henna on much longer than 20 minutes (the longer the redder). Also, like I said be prepared for orangey tones in the first few days --it will definitely tone down to a much nicer colour. Good luck. I know the panicky feeling of the first time result, but you will DEFINITELY be better off (It can't get any worse than day- glo orange) with good quality henna.
