grey hair tipsPosted by Carol on November 22, 2004 at 16:18:48: I've been hennaing for 25 years plus and just this year learned howto do it right, via this sight...just bought bulk stuff from the Co- op or whatever I could get, mixed it with hot water and slopped it on. I found this sight as my rapidly greying hair was getting orangeyer (new word!) and have solved it all...my hair is a deep rich red with a bit of copper shine as I have commented before. Now I don't have to shave my head and let it grow out grey (and run away to a mountain retreat for the process) I was beginning to feel like an old fading orange headed hussy. Now I am a handsome mature redheaded hussy! The greying tips: if you are really grey (and your hair grows as fast as mine) you will have to touch up your roots every couple weeks. Usually, I do a big old whole head henna thingee every 4/5 weeks and then just touch up the roots 2 weeks later. A tint brush (you can buy for a buck or two at a beauty supply house) works really well for this. I'm finding I really like the addition of indigo. About 1 part indigo to 3 or 4 parts henna. After the dye release and when I'm ready to rock, I mix up the indigo with hot water to make a paste then add to the henna. Gives some subtle dark streakiness and tones down any brassyness but still red. I did not like walnut powder as an addition (for me!) as it just made it look browner but not as brilliant. Cheers hennaheads!
