: : : Does anyone know where I can buy indigo in Toronto? If not
Toronto,
: : : then anywhere else in Canada? I have decided not to use
chemical
: : hair
: : : colours and wish to use the two step method (henna and indigo)
to
: : : cover gray hairs. Thanks.
: :
: : Hi, Raven,
: : Did you ask Holly at Henna by Holly [see the suppliers page on
this
: : site]? She is in Toronto; I do not know if she has indigo, but
you
: : might do well to ask.
: : Another option is just to order directly from Catherine here. She
: : ships very promptly. I have ordered from both of them and have
been
: : satisfied.
: : I doubt that you will have much luck in finding decent henna, let
: : alone indigo, anywhere else in Toronto. I work there just at the
: : minute, and if one can find it at all, the usual run is stale
Colora,
: : LM, Logrona, LUSH, and whatever dodgy 'henna products' litter the
: : shelves.Body art henna is supposed to remain frozen, if possible -

: : not languishing in all conditions on shelves! If you know any
Indian
: : or Pakistani people, they may direct you to some stores where
decent
: : henna is available, but again you nay run the risk of poor
storage,
: : its containing green dye [to make it look fresh]or being stale.
: : Sometimes it can be quite good, but you are safer to order from a
: : dealer who states right on the packet of henna that this
is 'summer
: : crop, 2004' - so you know what you are getting. Forget about
salons.
: : Please let us know how things work out for you - we like to hear.
: : Also, the more of us in different cities and countries know where
: : decent henna is to be found, the more we can help one another.
Good
: : luck!

: Hi Katherine,
:
: Thanks for your reply. I did email Holly to find out if she knows
of a
: place that sells indigo, but I have not heard from her yet. As far
as
: I know, she does not sell Indigo.
:
: Just to let you know, I did find some very good quality henna in
: Little India here in Toronto just a few days ago. The name of the
: store is BJ Supermarket. The store is located at 1449 Gerrard Street
: East. I asked the woman who works there for good quality henna, as I
: saw the 'crap' stuff on the shelves and wasn't about to buy any of
: them. Four hundred grams cost me $3.99 (and that's Canadian!). The
: woman told me that they get the henna delivered weekly in bulk and
: they then package it themselves with their own sticker on the
plastic
: bag. When I tried it on the gray patch of my hair it turned a deep,
: beautiful shade of reddish brown (more red than brown). If it suited
: my complexion, I would have just left it. I then tried the Logona
: (sp?) brand in Black and it turned a darker brownish red, but it
: wasn't that great. Just yesterday I went to Thuna's (a herbal store
: here in T.O.) and bought some black henna that they sell in bulk. I
: put that over the hennaed part of my hair and left it in for five
: hours. The result is not bad. I will try it again and leave it on a
: bit longer, as I want my hair as dark as possible (my natural hair
: colour is black). I still want to try indigo though!

Hi, Raven,

From your explorations on this site, you'll know why I'm wondering
what you got in that 'black henna.' Some of that stuff is extremely
dodgy; I shouldn't think it would be riddled with PPDs, but it could
contain henna salts, old camel dung, rhino horns and who knows what
else, labelling it 'all natural.'Where is this Thuna store, if I may
ask? - it's not one of which I've heard, but I like to check them.
Did the shop on Gerrard give you any information about the crop date,
place of origin, things like that? They may indeed get it weekly and
then put their sticker on it, but how fresh is it when it arrives? I
wouldn't mind trying it, since it gives the shade I need, but since
trying the body art variant, I like to know what I'm slopping on
myself. I like the price, though...;)!!
As to your indigo, probably best to go straight to Catherine and
you'll have it quite quickly. Best of luck!
