Henna gloss questions

I'm going to do a modified version of Fia's henna gloss (less henna,
mainly, as I only want the slightest of warm tones and don't want
there to be a color demarcation when my hair grows). I have these
questions:

1) I intend to do a strand test, but if I mix up a full-size batch &
strand test from that, won't the rest of it be sitting and getting
stronger while the strand test is going? So then should I mix up a
teeny batch just for the strand test instead? But then how would I
be sure the proportions were the same when I went to do the big
batch?

2) What's a good length of time for the gloss to be in the hair? I
know the red will get deeper the longer it sits, but I don't want it
to be on too briefly to get the conditioning benefits.

3) Instead of, or in addition to, yogurt, can I mix the henna with
cassia? As in, mix henna, mix cassia seperately, mix together, apply?

4) When henna's applied in small amounts/for shorter time like in
this gloss, and not repeated frequently, is it more likely to fade
with time?

Thanks!
