Dislike yellow-orange hue right after hennaPosted by Sheilagh on December 3, 2004 at 19:44:06: I've used henna twice now and I am perplexed as to why I get astrongs yellowy hue for 1-2 weeks after. *see the pics from the 1st time around and you see what I mean...I posted my before and after results after my first henna here: http://www.hennaforhair.com/mixes/sheilagh/ Some of my growth has been dyed and thought maybe that was causing yellowing. But I've tried to compare results with others who have a similar natural shade (about a medium blonde.) It looks like others had the same effect. With only a few inches of non-chem. dyed hair...it's hard to tell if new growth done with henna is any different. Is it using lemon for dye release? Would using a different dye release ingredient actually alter one's hair during a henna? Or does it depend more on your natural color (and even past chemical dyes I would imagine)? The yellow hue becomes less obvious with time but is still bothersome to me. My second mix was simply lemon and tea tree oil. I don't think it made much difference in the color (and still had that yellow!) I miss the blue-red tones of the chemical dyes but I sure don't miss the damage it caused. Is there anyway to achieve a more bluish red? Less yellowy/orange?? Would adding things like the teas or coffees actually keep a darker color? Or is that just temporary? It's even starting to bother me that with a yellow/orange hue seems to affect the colors in my wardrobe too! Any help would be appreciated!
