Re: Question about supplements causing hair lossPosted by Katherine on December 3, 2004 at 21:19:50: In reply to: Question about supplements causing hair loss posted by Katherine on November 30, 2004 at 20:11:30: : A bit down the page, Maria G mentioned that her sister had: experienced hair loss until stopping the use of a particular : supplement. Maria, if you happen to read this, do you know what it : was that she was taking? : This autumn, I tried a combination of 200mg alpha-lipoic acid + 500mg : acetyl L-carnitine [sometimes marketed in the US under the name of : Juvenol, I believe]. I am wondering if the hair loss I experienced : had anything to do with taking that combination or dosage. Just : interested ... TIA Thanks to you both for your replies. Marlene, that is interesting about the type of pot you were using; could the same thing happen from a metal teapot, I wonder? Mind you, we have been using one for years, and those wretched things one is brought in most restaurants as well. But I have halved the supplement dose, and am taking silica, and it seems as if the hair has stopped falling out. The other possibility is that I overdid it with the lemon juice when hennaing in September; I had a foul dermatitis as a result. But the hairs had the little root bulb attached, not just breakage...so who knows?? At all events, it doesn't look as if the time has yet come for me to go have a Celtic knot scalp tattoo!! ;)
