I ran up a quick search on DHEA, and discovered plenty to ponder on: http://www.quackwatch.org In general, I'd say anything that messes with hormonal balance is dodgy in the extreme, given that normal endocrines do their job in very minuscule quantities. If we add or subtract from that in the kinds of amounts we usually find sold in health store remedies, it's rather like what is done to laboratory rats: excessive, and only tested on on a physiology not human to begin with. I'm glad to hear that your sister - and her hair! - is recovering.
