Smell of cloves

The first time I put cloves in henna, the cloves had a really strong
smell, even through the bag after being in the freezer, which is
part clove oil smell and part something else, which I take to be
clove solid smell. This resulted in my hair smelling like clove
solids when I wet it. The last time I hennaed, the cloves had a weak
smell. Is my nose desensitized because the scent is in my hair, or
did the scent dissipate in the freezer?
