I've : always used boiling hot tea in my henna mix and always get dye : release. If I am killing the the henna, how do I know. What does : dead henna do? Condition but not color? Color but not as well or : long lasting? Think about it. Boiling liquid plus plant is cooking. I'm not sure how in the world you've managed NOT to cook your henna completely yet. Dead henna does not release dye (or much of it). It conditions SOME, but, again, not much. Dead henna doesn't colour well, because the dye never gets to release. Henna IS permanent, though, to clear up that misconception.
