I also bleached out a strand of hennaed hair to white, about a year ago. it seriously
weakened the hair, you do have to leave it on for ages indeed.
also, the colour you get before you get to white, is a really weird shade of orange
first, and then a horrible shade of yellow. it may be possible to add some ashy shade
to the yellow to get a reasonably natural colour blonde, but in any case getting a
darker blonde is not simply a matter of leaving the bleach on for a smaller amount of
time.
