A half hour is pretty fast for dye release. Did you use warm water or
heat it in some way? The henna may have already hit the demise point
by the time you tested it, so the second test absorbed less henna.
Some where on this site is a henna demise chart, but I can't find it.

What kind of henna is it? And how did you mix it?
