Ingredients don't sound like your problem to me

Most people agree that those other ingredients don't make an enormousdifference. What it sounds like to me is that you simply didn't leave
the henna on for long enough. One hour won't do very much. Try
leaving a sample on for four and see where that gets you, and
experiment as much as you can with henna alone before you start
putting in additives. Also, was your sample still orange after a few
days? I henna a dark blonde friend of mine (two hours or so, she
doesn't want a dark colour) and it's bright orange for the first few
days, then settles down to a beautiful copper.
