No dye release! And I thought I was a veteran.Posted by Betsey on December 16, 2004 at 18:07:10: Sorry guys. I've been doing henna for months (since last summer) andhave never had a problem with dye not releasing but... I mixed up a batch about a week or so ago using a slightly altered version of one of Fia's gel mixes. (I mixed together all 500ml of fluids, boiled them, added the pectin, let that gel and added the hot mixture to the henna powder instead of waiting for dye release first.) After I was finished I set it out for dye release and went to work... later I found out that I couldn't do the henna that night so I put it in the freezer right when I got home. I didn't check to see if the dye had released yet. Now I took the frozen mix out of the freezer yesterday afternoon so that it would be ready today, and it was all thawed out when I got home but no dye release at ALL. Not even a little bit! I warmed up the mixture by putting it in a tupperware and then putting that in a pot of warm water, but still nothing. It's making me nervous. I even thought that maybe the pectin took the acidity out of the lemon juice when I boiled it all together so I added some more juice to it. Does anyone know of anything else I can do? If it never releases dye then I suppose I can just put it in a bottle and use it as conditioner or something. :D Oh I wish it would work! It's my last batch before I had to buy some more! Arg.
