water quality & henna ?? for a newbe

Well, I just found this sight and looking at the clock realized I
have now spent just over two hours here! Wow! I have never used
henna for my hair(just for body art)and have not dyed it for years.
I do have a perm that is three months old. My hair is fine and just
below shoulder length (growing out from my head being shaved a couple
of years back!). I have been wanting to henna my hair and my teenage
daughters as well. Here is my concern, the home we moved into back in
December has very hard water! So, bad that the entire family has
developed dandruff and dry skin in the three months we have lived
here. How does water quality affect the dye? Also, I have been
under tons of stress and have had hair loss due to this. I know that
this did not affect the perm, and assume henna to be the same! Any
thoughts??? Thanks in advance
