The sad part : is that before I saw this site, I actually thought that it was a : natural product and that it was good for your hair. They market it : that way. What a crock of ! Someone should sue them for misleading : people into thinking that it's natural. How was I to know that I was : putting poison on my head. yes. I have a couple of friends who used to use this stuff, and were completely convinced it was safe. 'it's what the asian ladies use to dye their greys' was the recommendation - the implication somehow being that asian ladies only use safe things on their hair? the reasoning doesn't really hold up, but the illusion of safety was very persistent in any case. before I knew about PPD being added to henna, I used to use a brand of 'black henna' that I now know has PPD in it (it went black immediately after mixing with water). the PPD was not listed on the box. I used to use this stuff to dye my *eyebrows* and *eyelashes*, for god's sake. (had no idea it is not a good idea in general to use hair dyes for this, and nothing about eyebrows and lashes was stated in the directions for use). there's this other brand of boxed henna that is very widely available in the netherlands, 'henne color', that recently came out with an 'improved' version of their black. they used to have a black that was just indigo with a bit of henna, but the 'improved' version has PPD added to that. they also carry some other shades with sodium picramate, - their copper shade is just (crappy) henna. they do list their additives on the box, but still, you get this stuff in health food stores, so you somehow assume it will be alright, right? not right. there are lots of cosmetics that are being sold in health food stores that are not all that 'healthy'. iris
