more advice for gray roots?

I'm closer and closer to taking the plunge! But for those of you
that henna to cover gray, do you rehenna all your hair everytime, or
do you just touch up the roots every month?

I know henna "builds" with each application, if you just do the
roots, will that keep the rest from going too dark?

I have gray in front and med brown in back, but only for about 1/2
inch roots. The rest is dyed strawberry blond. Will the henna grab
more on the dry, colored-several-times length then on the roots?
Will the roots be brighter then the length because they are gray and
the lenght is strawberry? I'm hoping there won't be much of a
difference.

Thanks for your patience...I being a baby about it because I used
Light Mountain 3 years ago and got the frog butt green...it was very
traumatic! ;)
