I got a very dark brown on my daughter's medium brown hair. I did
it like the Indian site says to do and mixed half amla and half
henna. I mixed both henna and amla up at the same time and combined
them after 12 hours and let that mix set another 12 hours.

For myself I mixed amla and let it set for twelve hours. I then
mixed indigo and waited for dye release and combinded the two. I
applied this to my hennaed hair and left it on for 4 hours. I got
jet black and the black did not fade like it does with just indigo
alone.

Later, on my daughter, I applied the indigo/amla mix and she got jet
black with NO fading.

For us to get the black we want we must use henna first and then
follow it with the indigo/amla mix. I use a 2:1 ratio for
indigo/amla. That is 2 cups of indigo and one cup of amla.
