I've got med to dark brown hair with lots of grey too. I used a
henna/indigo/walnut mixture with cloves added. With my first
application the greys still came out a little too brassy but I was
very happy overall with the coverage and it didn't look too red. I
left it on almost 3 hours. A week later I took the same mixture and
only did my roots ( I did a vinegar rinse on my hair first because I
heard this helps the indigo from washing out). I was very pleased
with the overall look. The greys blend very well and my brown hair
has a reddish cast to it but it wasn't really obvious. With a lot
of the people I know they hardly noticed. Only noticed that the grey
got covered up. My concern as time goes on and I keep using henna
is that I may end up with a deeper red in my hair but I'll take it
one henna at a time. I was always afraid I would look horrible in
red but my only experience with red hair was the brassy commerical
hair dye stuff and it looked horrible on me. The red from the henna
really seems to suit me.

You should look at the mixes section here on this website too to get
an idea of what you want and do lots of strand tests. I even tested
on a part of my grey hair that wasn't in full view just to see how
the grey would come out.
