Why does henna wash out more slowly on some hair

My natural color is brown.I have twice used a blue black henna on my
hair and loved the results. It washed out over the next two months
or so.Then I used black henna on my son's hair, which was dark
blonde. It's now 5 months later and the color hasn't washed out, but
has faded to dark red. Is this because of the color of henna used or
because of our different hair color/type Thanks
