I mix the hennawith lemon juice the : night before and the indigo with HOT water just before applying. When both are : showing dye release I mix them together and apply them to my hair in one-step. : : When I first did this I got a dark cherry, it was almost a dark ash brown with red : undertones in indoor lighting, but still a cool deep red outdoors in the sun. Over the : last 2 months it has mellowed somewhat to what I think of as a "cool auburn" ... it is : not a brassy orangy red at all, but looks good with my cool skin tones. : : I'll post the picture of my "after" color, too ... : : I know other people have gotten cooler burgundy type tones using amla, but I have : not tried that at this time. : : HTH, : Kim : :HI Kim! My apologies to the original poster for hijacking her thread -- I just checked in here at HFH for the first time in weeks and weeks and when I saw your name just thought I'd ask how you're doing and how far along are you now? Bet the hair is growing in fast and furious, are you still hennaing away? I just did mine yesterday - hence the nostalgic urge to check in here. Glad to see my "head shot twin" still posting. The above pic is gorgeous, but I don't think its extremely new is it? Have you been able to maintain the colour you were happy with or does it vary a bit with each new application? I have been surprised at how quickly the henna "build up" has worked on me considering how infrequently I henna (I can usually make at least 8 weeks no problem, this last time I went 12+ weeks and although the roots and greys do eventually show, it helps that they come in lighter than the rest not darker. However I am thrilled by the way the colour stays for so long. A friend of mine who has done chemical dyes for years ( and isn't interested in any alternatives) did hers over x-mas, a very pretty plummy colour; however here it is only 4 weeks later and it is so brassy and orange I thought she had done it again with a different colour! I do add about 20% indigo to my mix these days and I am really happy with the result. Using Catherine's killer henna and her indigo, I get such intense colour; however I am wary of going too dark so I keep the indigo to a minimum. I'm still a good bit redder than yours but no orange, more of deep deep ruby red which looks burgundy in artificial light. Yummy. Anyway, glad to see you still here, its still fun to talk henna as I sit here with the smell of cloves wafting about me... take care!!!!!!
