:HI Kim! My apologies to the original poster for hijacking her
: thread -- I just checked in here at HFH for the first time in weeks
: and weeks and when I saw your name just thought I'd ask how you're
: doing and how far along are you now? Bet the hair is growing in fast
: and furious, are you still hennaing away?

Hi Diane! Nice to see you again! I haven't been here much, either. I come and go, LOL.
I'm about 26 weeks along, and baby and I are doing well! Sad to say I don't think my
hair is growing fast and furious, though ... Oh well.

Am I still hennaing? Hmmmm I'm not sure, LOL. I last did it in December, to cover the
roots. It's due for another, but I am not sure I want to be locked in to covering my
gray; I have enough gray on top that it is noticeable ... I was hoping to find a way to
"fade" from gray to the hennaed part, but each time I've tried to leave it on less long
it's still colored well enough that the next month I'm faced with the same issue, do I
cover the roots or let it grow out? I'm leaning towards letting it grow out, right now.
NOT because I don't like the color, I really do! But because I don't really want to be
coloring gray, when I started just for fun, you know?

: I just did mine yesterday - hence the nostalgic urge to check in
: here. Glad to see my "head shot twin" still posting. The above pic is
: gorgeous, but I don't think its extremely new is it? Have you been
: able to maintain the colour you were happy with or does it vary a bit
: with each new application?

No, the pic I posted wasn't new, it was from the first 50/50 mix results. My color
hasn't really changed since then, so I don't have any new pix. I will take one in early
Feb for length (for a different board - trying to grow my hair long!), but nothing new
on the color front. I've been very happy with this mix, and don't mind any variation,
but I haven't done it too many times since that first 50/50 simply because I'm still
debating "taking the plunge" to start growing it out natural. Although I must admit
reading here about amla has my artistic curiosity up, LOL!!!

: I have been surprised at how quickly the henna "build up" has worked
: on me considering how infrequently I henna (I can usually make at
: least 8 weeks no problem, this last time I went 12+ weeks and
: although the roots and greys do eventually show, it helps that they
: come in lighter than the rest not darker. However I am thrilled by
: the way the colour stays for so long. A friend of mine who has done
: chemical dyes for years ( and isn't interested in any alternatives)
: did hers over x-mas, a very pretty plummy colour; however here it is
: only 4 weeks later and it is so brassy and orange I thought she had
: done it again with a different colour!

That's the problem I always had with permanent dyes - and why I was 'caught off
guard' by the permanence of the henna! My color has faded very little, so it's really
only the roots that determine whether I need to recolor or not.

: I do add about 20% indigo to my mix these days and I am really happy
: with the result. Using Catherine's killer henna and her indigo, I get
: such intense colour; however I am wary of going too dark so I keep
: the indigo to a minimum. I'm still a good bit redder than yours but
:no orange, more of deep deep ruby red which looks burgundy in
: artificial light. Yummy.

It sounds beautiful! You should post a picture!

: Anyway, glad to see you still here, its still fun to talk henna as I
: sit here with the smell of cloves wafting about me...
: take care!!!!!!

It's good to hear from you, too! :-) I'm glad you're still around and doing well and
happy with your color!

kim
