mannite?Posted by elektra on January 30, 2005 at 03:07:09: my bf's mom just brought me some henna from egypt as a present. it isboxed, ok, and i'm not sure if it's really ok to use for me, but i don't wanna throw it away without checking. only problem is: there's only arabic written on the box, the only words standing out are "mannitte", "lawsone" and "tannic acid" (ok i know these last 2 ones ;). according to google, mannite seems to be a natural part of henna, like lawsone, but i never saw it mentioned anywhere else.. also, is there any trick with which i could safely test this stuff before using it? like, catherine suggested here, dyeing a hairball with it and putting that into a mix of peroxide and ammonium to see if there are any metals in it? if there's no bad reaction, will i be safe to safe it? the lady (a german, too) in the store swore to her that she'd used it herself, and seemed to have a nice colour. but maybe she just trusts the label (too) blindly...
