Interesting you actually see dye release. It has beenover 24 hours now and I don't really see a change and it still doesn't stain my hands or latex gloves. I just mixed my sample with water not anything acidic, so I'll give it another try. It is a dull medium brown color paste now and if it would just stain it seems like the perfect color to balance the red it henna. : Hi Debra, : I have great luck going black with amla. : I naturally have light brown hair : with around 20% white. I dye to match my old black chem. dye. : I prep the amla with red wine, and some other liquid : to thin a little, and let it set covered in the kitchen : for 12-24 hours. And, just like henna, I can speed up : the dye release by using a heat pad under the plastic bowl. : So, first I henna/indigo overnight. The following night I : amla/indigo overnight. I get black. : The amla looks like henna when I'm prepping it. It has a : darker brown/black layer on top when it's oxidizing. : Hope this helps, good luck.
