: : IF you have been using body-art quality henna, and IF you are picky
: : about what chemicals you use to do the highlights...yes, you're
: safe.
: : Check my second mix in the mixes section, which should give you a
: : jumping off point. I'd be wary of using any boxed "highlighting"
: kits
: : that give specific shades of highlights, as the dyes used to make
: sure
: : the highlights come out a certain shade are the same ppd dyes that
: we
: : are all trying to avoid. Straight peroxide/bleach mix is the safest
: : in relation to henna, but it can be hard to control the shade you
: get.

: Thanks for the reply :) I bought my Henna from Catherine. I was
: going to use bleach - peroxide. I wouldn't use those boxed kits. I
: basically only want a few thin strands here and there, very subtle.
: I still want to continue to use Henna for the conditioning and shine
: though, I hope that is ok? My main concern was frying - burning -
: drying and or frizz my hair from a bad reaction from the bleach on
: Hennaed hair. Is this possible? If yes, I will leave well enough
: alone. Unless you know of other safe ways to add a few golden
: highlights to my dark brown Hennaned hair?

I don't know any other ways--I had a hard time getting lemon juice to
work on my medium brown hair. With Catherine's henna, I'd be willing
to bet that you are safe. Do strand tests first so you can get an
idea of how long to leave the bleach on, but I haven't had any bad
reactions. I usually highlight before I henna, as the henna heals any
damage the bleach seems to have done. It gives me copper-gold
highlights on auburn hair that way. Don't forget--put bleach on the
ends of the hair first. The hair near your scalp is newer and will
bleach faster...something to do with weathering and just exposure to
the elements, if I remember correctly.
