how long after dying must you wait to henna?

I have chin-length hair that I dyed red for 8 months and fried my hair. I decided to stop
and let the roots grow out until I could henna it. It's been four or five months since I last
dyed my hair (and that was only the roots) and I now have 2-3 inches of natural roots, not
quite a third of the length. I'm just getting a little impatient... so I was wondering how long
after dying is it safe to henna? Do you have to wait until the dye is completely grown out?
If I get my hair "stripped" will that help any?
