buildup?

I've reached a colour that I like, and I'm trying to think of a way
to stop the build up process while still doing a whole head treatment?
Has anybody tried a combo of cassia & henna for connditioning without
too much colour? I assume this would work as some of the henna brands
that claim to come in "shades" are a combination of cassia and henna.

Any other ideas? I love the conditioning effects of a full head
treatment but want to slow down the colour build up process...
