Is this odd??? posted by Rainbow-Vanessa on February 7, 2005 at 15:58:16: Thanks Vanessa,I've always had a problem with oily hair, but not this bad for a LONG time, not since I started the coloring so long ago. I'm guessing it's also just putting my hair back where it used to be before all the processing was done. I'll try some different shampoos and see what I can find to help. I've been thinking about making my own shampoos without all the nasty chemicals and preservatives that the commercial stuff has in them, I just need to get all the stuff I need to do it. I don't have any Ylang Ylang EO on hand, but I'll try that. And yep, I know all about EO's I use a LOT of them for lots of different stuff!! I'm an old "kitchen witch" and have quite a stock of EO's on hand for all sorts of things, just no Ylang Ylang at the moment!! ;) I think I will pass on the contraceptives though, but thanks for the heads up. I've had serious health problems the last several years and I'm working extra hard to eliminate ALL drugs and nasty stuff from my system, I'm so tired of drugs and chemicals and unnatural stuff being pumped into my bod, I could just scream!! Plus, I had my tubes tied several years ago, so I really have no need for contraceptives, and when I did take them years ago, I had HORRIBLE side affects, so I won't be taking that to just help oily hair!! I was just curious if anyone else had experienced this after using henna. And if I had to choose between dry skin and hair or oily skin and hair, I think I'd rather have the oily!! LOTS fewer wrinkles and LOTS less conditioning I have to do!! :) Peace, Ginny : Hmm. You know, when I used to use cheaper, more harsh detergent based : shampoo, my hair was much more oily than it is now. It's strange that : the henna would make it that oily, but perhaps it's because it's : making it healthier and reversing the previous dye damage to the : scalp, and thus your oil glands are now free to work overtime, trying : to make up for it. Generally with excessive oil like that, it will get : worse the harsher stuff you use, because it will trigger the sebum : glands to produce overtime. My suggestion to this would be to try an : all natural shampoo instead. Within a few weeks your scalp should : normalise, since it won't be getting stripped each time it gets : washed. These shampoos do quite a good job getting rid of oil and : dirt, but without the stripping your hair will look worse until it : ajusts and produces less oil. So it seems like a good long term : solution. Meanwhile, sprinkling a bit of cornstarch and brushing that : through will help you last the day. Also a good idea is to add ylang : ylang oil to your shampoo. Don't be scared by the word oil, it's one : of those oils that will help normalise your own oil production, in : your case decreasing it - ask Pierre! Hope that helps! By the way, I : don't know if this would be your thing, but there are certain : contraceptive pills one can take that will reduce oil production : dramatically, but reducing the male androgen hormones that your body : seems to be producing in excess which cause all this oiliness. You : should talk to your doctor, no reason you have to suffer your whole life!
