That elusive burgundy shade/newbiePosted by Sally on February 7, 2005 at 19:33:34: I naturally have honey/dirty blonde hair, and had been dying my hairburgundy-red with chemical dyes for about 2 years. This past summer I read amazing things about henna on the livejournal group "longhair" and discovered not only could I stop trashing my hair, I could get it red safely. I stopped dyeing my hair for 4 months and hennaed it. I've hennaed it one more time since and it's now a medium red with deeper red highlights. I only use body art quality henna purchased from endorsed vendors on this site. I have been trying to "push" my hair more towards a burgundy shade. So far I read an interesting article about terpines here, after hearing them mentioned: http://reverndbunny.sphosting.com/jani.html Has anyone experimented with terpines, and how have they affected the color? Have the effects lasted? The other additive I heard mentioned was allspice, which apparently worked well for the user in pushing it towards a burgundy. What methods have people tried? What has worked? What has lasted? I'd be satisfied with a deep red, but I see users like Kim from BC and wonder if a burgundy is actually possible. Should I just continue to henna my hair and wait for build-up (natural blonde has produced wonderfully dramatic results) or is there a faster way?
