Just another piece of haircolor history. Re auburn keeping hair dark: I can attest to this. My great aunt began hennaing her dark ash blond/light brown hair in the late 1920s, and didn't stop until well after her whole head had been gray for a number of years. As long as I knew her (before she opted for silver in her 80s), she had beautiful deep auburn hair.
