yes, my half-sister and I have a genetic disorder called Porphyria. I
have to be especially careful of anything that triggers the Liver or
Spleen. In times past this was called the Vampire disease becoz it is
triggered by sunlight and aggravated by garlic(the sulfur in the
garlic). I can use henna. But my sister can't. (and my adopted sister
has been told by her hematologist to avoid henna for 1 yr. after
going thru chemo!) However, I henna-ed once when I was already not
feeling well and I nearly done myself in! So sometimes it is also the
timing. Allergies can crop up to things you have never been allergic
to before just becoz you are having an allergic reaction to something
else at the same time you are exposed to the new allergen! And it
might never happen again! Or you could have a new allergy for the
rest of your life.
I advise everyone to do an allergy test before they do anything. This
is where Catherine's samples are so wonderful...mix up a spoonfull of
what you intend to do and test it on the inside of your elbow 24
hours in advance. Every time! Make sure the 48 hours before you do
henna that you are not overly stressed, not on your period, and you
eat and sleep properly! (this takes some planning I know!)
Henna is a beautiful, wholesome(note the 'whole' part of the word!),
amazing experience. But for every heaven there is a hell...
just be smart, know yourself, know your henna...
