henna on red hair?

I am in my late 40's and just starting to show some signs of
graying. My natural hair color is a soft auburn. Dark brown with
naturally deep red highlights. I want to keep the natural color of
my hair. Will henna make it a darker red? Don't want the flaming
red that I see in some of the women that use henna.
