This is because the hair right at these places is not "weathered" as
it is lower down the strand. You will have more henna uptake in the
"weathered" areas than in the recently grown area, because in the
"weathered" parts of the hair, the scales are more broken, opened out,
and available for dye uptake. I don't know of any way to completely
avoid this.
