Grey coverage a 2 step process?

I'd really like to see some info on coloring grey hair.

The morroccomethod.com website advises applying "red" henna first as
a "filler" and then applying your "chosen color" <<< that is from
the "A Step-by-Step Guide to Applying Henna" you link to from this
page: http://morroccomethod.com/henna.html

I tried a test w/henna from Catherine. I mixed it w/lemon juice, let
sit on the warm exterior of the freezer for 12 hours, added tea tree
and lavender EO, divided into two test batches, one w/more lemon
juice, the other w/coffee and cloves, mixed in hair and left for 3
more hours on the freezer. The lemon batch was fairly light bright
bozo orange :( The coffee/clove batch was darker, but still too
orangey for me. Grey coverage looked very good for both batches.
Now I'll wait for further color development. Then, I think I'll see
what another application does to the color. I definitely don't want
to put it on my head yet!

Any suggestions for a deeper color...or just repeated applications?
