She reckoned leave it a couple of months, then start doing hairbrush tests (instructions on this site) to see how it reacts. If you snoop around the site, especially the "Mixes" page, you'll see advice on what to use for different colour tones. Cloves seem to be particularly popular for deepening the red. There are also very detailed instructions on how to mix it up, and some interesting variation (Fia's devised a method using pectin to make a gel, which is apparently the bee's knees). Leaving it on for longer and using it repeatedly will indeed deepen the colour as the henna builds up on your hair. Happy hennaing!
