semi permanent dyes over henna

I used the pre-mixes of henna and indigo without much success--never
saw too much difference in color after a couple of washings--and now
I am planning to use a semi-permanent color (I know, yucky
chemicals!). I would love to use some high quality henna in the
future, but at this point transluscent dyes won't help me, as I have
bleached ends and dark roots. Anyway, I know everything says not to
use chemicals over henna, and I will definitely do a test on some
sample hair first, but I am just hoping to hear that someone has done
this, or heard of it being done with some success.
